In the temporarily controlled territory, residents were forced to replace Ukrainian license plates with Russian ones by the first of April. Otherwise, they face fines and confiscation of driver's licenses.

This requirement not only caused huge queues near the MREO offices but also became a source of a new way to earn extra money.

According to Komsomolskaya Pravda, to avoid waiting when replacing license plates at the Crimean MREO, one can turn to an intermediary: the service will cost 3000–5000 rubles (1000–1700 hryvnias), after which Russian plates will be issued.
