In addition, the company's management decided not to extend agreements with a number of current employees.

Experts suggest that new steps to optimize costs will soon follow. Last week, the chairman of Volkswagen's works council, Bernd Osterloh, noted that the company will make every effort to increase productivity and gain additional billions of euros while avoiding staff layoffs.

Currently, the concern has already reserved 6.5 billion euros ($7.25 billion) to fix defects and conduct service campaigns in the United States.
