Many drivers will certainly like the initiative of the State Automobile Inspectorate, which proposes to bring back the inspection of the technical condition of cars, following European practice: in the first four years of operation, a car does not need to be shown to inspectors at all, and then it should undergo control every two years.
However, the head of the State Automobile Inspectorate, Anatoliy Sirenko, also expressed a wish that vehicles older than 15 years be checked twice a year, but parliamentarians are unlikely to grant inspectors such powers. It is worth recalling that mandatory technical inspection for owners of private cars was abolished in August 2011.
In addition to the quite reasonable proposal to bring back control over the technical condition of personal vehicles, Sirenko raised the issue of opaque tariffs and schemes used when storing cars in impound lots. According to the head of the Ukrainian State Automobile Inspectorate, the price per day should not be inflated and must remain within 25 hryvnias.
