We have already written that the main factor causing fluctuations in gasoline prices is the instability of the national currency. It is precisely the fluctuations of the latter that led to the hype around fuel and the growth of retail gasoline prices.

However, the situation with wholesale purchases was even worse, and some traders even stopped trading petroleum products while waiting for the hryvnia to stabilize. According to the Consulting Group A-95, the wholesale cost of a ton of A-95 gasoline increased by 28% in February and reached 16,150 UAH by February 27.

Diesel fuel also showed significant growth, amounting to 26%, and the upper price limit was fixed at 13,080 UAH/t. Against this background, the average retail price increase of 10% is perceived as moderate, with the average price of A-95 being 11.05-12.79 UAH/l, and diesel fuel - 9.90-11.39 UAH/l.

At the moment, the hryvnia seems to have stabilized at around 10 UAH per $1, but banks recommend focusing on a dollar exchange rate of 11.5 UAH in March. Nevertheless, experts predict some decrease in prices at gas stations, as fuel demand has fallen, and this will force gas station chains to reduce prices as soon as such an opportunity arises.
