Anatoliy Holubchenko, acting head of the city administration, voiced this position. Earlier, city authorities considered the possibility of increasing the fare to 5 hryvnias in order to make municipal transport self-sustaining. Nevertheless, in the end, officials settled on a new fare of 3 hryvnias.
However, this does not guarantee that the price of a ticket on public transport will actually be three hryvnias. The final decision will depend on the content of the state budget for 2014. An important role will be played by the form in which it is approved and how much the needs of Kyiv are taken into account there. The document on raising tariffs has already passed all necessary approvals, but for it to take effect, it only lacks the signature of the head of the Kyiv City State Administration.
At the same time, Holubchenko expresses concern that adopting such an unpopular step in the current situation could provoke new protest sentiments, which Kyiv does not need at all right now. He promised to sign the order at the latest possible time, as far as it would be permissible.
