The first five days of 2014 were very productive for the Kyiv traffic police. It is unknown how many drunk drivers were caught by the inspectors in total, but 186 protocols were drawn up.
According to the State Traffic Inspectorate, the peak of violations occurred on December 31 and January 1, when traffic officers stopped 88 drivers under the influence of alcohol. Even the significantly increased liability for drunk driving, which has been in effect since December 14, 2013, does not scare those who like to drink.
It is also worth noting that a special unit of the State Traffic Inspectorate (formerly known as "Cobra") began its work in Kyiv and the region on January 1.
