This is a new page in the brand's history, because until now smart has focused exclusively on electric vehicles. Now the manufacturer has decided to expand its lineup, taking into account the global cooling of interest in "pure" electric power.

The Smart #5 EHD is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 163 hp, which works in tandem with a hybrid 3-speed automatic transmission. The main feature is a significant driving range: up to 252 km on electric power alone (according to the CLTC cycle) and up to 1615 km in hybrid mode with a full tank.
Last year, right here in Chengdu, the fully electric smart #5 premiered, becoming the largest and most expensive model of the brand. In the top Brabus version, it accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds thanks to 646 hp.

According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to July this year, smart sold 16,871 vehicles (12.6% compared to the same period in 2024). Although these are modest figures for the local market, it is the hybrid modifications that may help attract a new audience.
The smart #5 EHD is expected to be officially presented in the fourth quarter, and later hybrid "smart" crossovers will appear in other markets as well.
