It is reported that the Evolution trademark will be assigned to... the Outlander crossover. However, there is no talk of renaming the model: it is planned that the Evolution will be the name of the sporty version of the Outlander.

According to media reports, Mitsubishi initially planned to show the Outlander Evolution this fall, but due to the cancellation of the Tokyo Motor Show (scheduled for October), the premiere was postponed until summer 2022.
Nothing much is known about the characteristics of the Mitsubishi Outlander Evolution at the moment. But it is expected to get a "boosted" plug-in hybrid powertrain and, obviously, will be more powerful than the regular Outlander PHEV.

Recall that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution was produced from 1992 to 2015. Over its life cycle, the sedan went through nine generations.
