In particular, the new Trumpchi GS8 has the same angular body, long hood and large radiator grille (which has two versions – for the petrol version it reaches the bumper, and for the hybrid one – right down to the lower lip). Moreover, even in dimensions the “Chinese” is close to the Japanese: its dimensions are 4980 x 1950 mm x 1780 mm, wheelbase – 2920 mm (the current GS8 has a length of 4835 mm, wheelbase – 2800 mm). For comparison, the dimensions of Toyota Land Cruiser 300 are 4950 x 1980 x 1900 mm, base – 2850 mm.

By the way, the new GS8 is based on a new GAC platform called GPMA.

In terms of the interior, the Trumpchi GS8 is also close to the “Cruiser”: high seating position, massive center console, multifunction steering wheel. Equipment even includes such a “nice touch” as a 540-degree panoramic camera – it can even display an image from under the floor, helping the driver better cope with off-road conditions. The new model will be available in 6- and 7-seat versions.

The base Trumpchi GS8 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-four producing 250 hp and 400 Nm, an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Theoretically, such an SUV could challenge the younger “three-hundred” – with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 producing 275 hp and 385 Nm, a 6-speed automatic and 4x4 drive.

The top version of the SUV is equipped with a plug-in hybrid setup based on that 2.0-liter unit; its characteristics have not yet been disclosed.

The price of the new Trumpchi GS8 is not yet known, but the current generation costs from $23,500 in China. It is quite possible that the starting price for the new model will approach the $25,000 mark. This is, of course, much less than the price of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300.
