Sales of the 2022 Ford Maverick pickup will start in the fall. The starting price will be $19,995, making the new model the most affordable truck in the Ford lineup. Unlike its larger siblings, the vehicle does not have a body-on-frame construction — it is built on a unibody platform shared with the Ford Kuga and Bronco Sport. The main rival of the Maverick is the new Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The exterior of the Ford Maverick features angular shapes, which is typical for pickups. The C-shaped headlights are LED even in the base trim. It is worth noting that the vehicle is compact only by pickup standards: its length is 5072 mm. The cargo bed, 1.37 m long, can carry up to 680 kg of load.

In the interior, there is a noticeable borrowing of elements from the Ford Kuga and Bronco Sport, such as the steering wheel and the round gear selector. All Maverick versions are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen display, a Wi-Fi module, a light sensor, and an automatic braking function. The cabin and cargo area have power outlets for electrical devices.

The base version of the 2022 Ford Maverick is front-wheel drive and hybrid: a combination of a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor produces a total of 191 hp. All-wheel drive is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged unit producing 250 hp.

The more powerful modification received an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid is content with a CVT. In addition, it can tow a trailer weighing up to 1.8 tons, while the base version is limited to 900 kg. For the all-wheel-drive variant, an off-road package is offered, including underbody protection and special tires.
