The South Korean automaker has shown the new Sportage in detail – both outside and inside. But it decided to hold back the technical specifications for now. There is still time, as the model's market launch is scheduled for autumn.

Exterior of the Kia Sportage 2022

The fifth-generation Kia Sportage uses the new design language Opposites United, which the Koreans first tried out on the EV6 electric vehicle. It was created by four design centers of the brand working in close conjunction with each other – Korean, German, American, and Chinese. The front of the car is dominated by the signature "tiger nose" grille, extending across the entire width of the vehicle. Moreover, the "grille" is finished in black and complemented by dark chrome inserts. Another characteristic feature is the boomerang-shaped daytime running lights adjacent to the main headlight block. The bumper, however, has a fairly simple design.

In profile, the new Kia Sportage 2022 features a muscular "posture" and a strong yet refined silhouette. The sharp narrowing of the side window line at the level of the rear pillar draws attention. The main element of the rear is sharp taillights with a complex pattern, connected by a narrow LED strip.

Finally, another characteristic detail is the new emblem. Now the Kia inscription is made in a new font and new scale, but most importantly, it has lost its oval framing.

Interior of the Kia Sportage 2022

The interior of the fifth-generation Sportage is also completely new. The front panel features two screens combined into a single curved panel. On the high central tunnel, finished in black gloss, there are cup holders, various buttons, controls, as well as transmission and drive mode selectors. The air vents are accentuated with generous chrome framing – as are the door handles.

Also, the new Sportage will have an X-Line trim – with a sporty body kit and an upgraded interior (quilted leather upholstery, wood inserts, etc.).

Technical specifications of the Kia Sportage 2022

As noted above, the technical specifications of the fifth-generation Kia Sportage have not yet been disclosed, but some guesses do exist. Thus, it is expected that the new crossover will inherit the engine lineup from its corporate sibling, the latest-generation Hyundai Tucson (both cars are built on the same platform). Depending on the market, the Sportage will be equipped with gasoline and diesel four-cylinder engines (with and without turbocharging), as well as hybrid setups (including plug-in). Among transmissions, the choice will be between a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch robot; drive is expected to be both front and all-wheel (the latter – optional).
