The Japanese automaker plans to unveil the new Pajero at the end of 2021 or early 2022, as reported by the Autohome portal.
The design of the future SUV will be based on the GC-PHEV concept (pictured), shown to the public in 2015. The prototype featured a hybrid powertrain consisting of a three-liter V6 engine with a supercharger and an electric motor, working in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The total output of such a system reached 340 horsepower, and on electric power alone, the vehicle could travel up to 40 kilometers.
However, according to preliminary data, the production version of the new-generation Pajero may use the powertrain from the hybrid Outlander. This means that under the hood will be a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 128 horsepower, supplemented by two electric motors: one on the front axle (82 hp) and one on the rear (95 hp).
