The Italian brand Maserati until recently was in no hurry to introduce electric technologies into its models, but the updated strategy provides for the appearance in the near future of several eco-friendly versions at once. It is expected that the first swallow will be a plug-in hybrid based on the Ghibli sedan. Details about the power plant of the petrol-electric car are not yet disclosed, and they are unlikely to appear before the start of the Beijing Auto Show.

Currently, the Ghibli is available with a 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine producing 350 or 430 horsepower, as well as a diesel of the same displacement with 250 or 275 horsepower. All variants are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drive can be either rear or all-wheel. The most dynamic modification — Ghibli S Q4 — is capable of reaching the first hundred in 4.7 seconds. The version with a 275-horsepower diesel engine spends 6.3 seconds on this maneuver.
