Production of the Mulsanne at the Crewe factory will end this spring, but the employees currently working on the production line will not be left idle — they will be transferred to other divisions of the company. The final chord in the sedan's history will be a series of 30 Mulsanne 6.75 Edition by Mulliner cars, dedicated both to the end of production and to the 6¾ V8 engine, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last year. The flagship position in the Bentley lineup will be taken by the Flying Spur — by 2023 it will have a version with a hybrid powertrain.
"Until recently, the Mulsanne played a key role in maintaining Bentley's position as the world leader in the luxury limousine segment," the company's statement reads. "The flagship of our model range, its longevity is a testament to an unwavering commitment to building the best cars in the world. The new Mulsanne 6.75 edition will be the culmination of this achievement."
The basis of the limited edition is the Mulsanne Speed with a 537-horsepower engine and 1100 Nm of torque. Moreover, the 6.75 Edition by Mulliner can be identified by the blackened body elements and the Flying B emblem, combined with chrome trim on the headlights and taillights.
In the interior, the special series will be reminded by the controls on the front panel, made in the form of oil filler caps, special embroidery on the seats, and schematic cross-section drawings of the engine on the clock face and instrument panel backing.
Four leather options are available for the interior trim — Imperial Blue, Beluga, Fireglow, and Newmarket Tan; the front panel is covered in a deep shade of black under a glossy lacquer and adorned with dark aluminum inserts.
Looking into the engine bay, the buyer will see a black intake manifold instead of the silver one and a plate with the engine number, signed by Bentley's president and CEO Adrian Hallmark.
Bentley's engine builders spend up to 15 hours assembling each such engine. The 6.75 V8 powertrain is installed exclusively on the Mulsanne — other models have already switched to the more compact "eights" of the Volkswagen concern or the W-shaped twelve-cylinder engine.
