The liftback received a four-liter gasoline V8 engine with two turbochargers, operating together with a starter-generator and a 48-volt on-board electrical system using a "mild hybrid" scheme.

The engine power is 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque — this is 40 hp and 100 Nm more than the output of the previous generation model's engine. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel drive Quattro system. Acceleration to 100 km/h for the new Audi RS7 Sportback takes only 3.6 seconds. The maximum speed is over 300 km/h when using the optional Dynamic Plus package.
The car is also equipped with specially tuned air suspension, a sport differential on the rear axle, and reinforced brake mechanisms. The driver has access to two extreme driving modes: RS1 and RS2, which can be activated by pressing a special button.

The liftback received radical changes compared to the A7. With the "civilian" version, the new product shares only the hood, doors, and roof. The car has grown in width by 42 mm (up to 1950 millimeters). The ground clearance of the new product is 20 mm lower than that of the standard Audi A7. The Audi RS7 Sportback received enlarged wheel arches, a redesigned black Audi Sport radiator grille, large air intakes, sport bumpers, a diffuser, LED optics, and a retractable spoiler that activates at a speed of 100 km/h. Customers will be offered 21- or 22-inch wheel rims. Also, electronically controlled Dynamic Ride Control shock absorbers are available for an additional charge.
For the first time, the car is available in a five-seat version in addition to the usual four-seat modification. The car is equipped with sport seats, a digital instrument panel, and several displays. The number of analog buttons in the car is minimized.
