The appearance of the show car is partially borrowed from the Seat 20V20 concept, presented in 2015. In addition, some design elements, for example, the pattern of the rear lights connected by a solid line, went to the Formentor from the flagship crossover Tarraco.

In the cabin, sports seats, a fully digital instrument panel, and a "floating" 10-inch touchscreen multimedia display enclosed in a separate block were installed.

The Cupra Formentor is equipped with a hybrid powertrain with the ability to recharge batteries from the electrical grid, which includes a gasoline turbo engine, an electric motor, a battery pack, and a dual-clutch "robot" gearbox. The total output of the units is 250 hp. On electric power alone, the crossover can travel up to 50 km.

It is expected that the production version of the Cupra Formentor will appear in 2020.
