The petrol version of the new Ford Focus ST is equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo engine developing 280 hp and 420 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with both a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The unit uses anti-turbo lag technology developed specifically for the GT supercar and the extreme F-150 Raptor pickup. When the accelerator pedal is released, the throttle valve remains slightly open, which avoids delay in torque build-up at low engine speeds.
The new Ford Focus ST can accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in less than six seconds, which is at least half a second faster than its predecessor.

In addition, the hot hatch is available with a two-liter diesel engine producing 190 hp and 400 Nm (available at 2000 rpm), which also makes it the most powerful diesel Focus in history.
For the first time, the Focus ST's standard equipment includes an electronically controlled front differential. In addition, the model received an electric power steering system, whose response is 15% faster than the new Fiesta ST. Also, the hot hatch received a system for selecting from several driving modes: "Normal", "Slippery/Wet" and "Sport".

On top of that, the new Ford Focus ST is available with the Performance Pack sport package, which includes a special "Track" mode, Launch Control quick start system, and gear-shift rev-matching technology borrowed from the Mustang.
