The hybrid modification was also offered for the Crosstrek of the previous generation, but it was a traditional hybrid without the possibility of plug-in charging.
The hybrid powertrain includes a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, supplemented by a pair of electric motors. One acts as a starter, but can also recharge the traction battery from the engine. The second, with 118 hp, turns the wheels in hybrid and pure electric driving modes, and also recharges the battery during braking.

For the hybrid, the two-liter engine was detuned from 152 to 137 hp. In addition, a new braking system was developed for the engine, automatically distributing force between the brakes and the electric motor operating in generator mode.
The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 8.8 kWh is located under the floor of the luggage compartment, the volume of which had to be reduced to 450 liters. The range on electric power is 27 km.
In pure electric mode, the model can accelerate to 104 km/h. Despite the weight increase of 258 kg, the electric "surcharge" made the Crosstrek Hybrid more dynamic than the regular version: its acceleration time to 100 km/h is one second less.

The hybrid's body color range includes a delicate blue pearl, blue rings are installed inside the headlights, and metallic inserts are on the radiator grille and bumpers.
In the interior, there is new upholstery made of leather in contrasting shades (gray and dark blue) with blue stitching, as well as blue inserts on the dashboard and doors.
The premiere of the Crosstrek Hybrid will take place at the Los Angeles motor show. The crossover will arrive at local dealers at the end of the year at a price starting from $34,995.
