The sedan has become larger, but at the same time significantly lighter than its predecessor, and also received new more powerful and economical engines.

From the predecessor, the new "three" can be distinguished by modified fully LED headlights (adaptive LED headlights are available as an option), rear lights and bumpers of a different shape. Overall, the sedan turned out to be visually larger than its predecessor due to an increased wheelbase. In addition, the designers of the Bavarian brand decided to abandon the traditional signature "Hofmeister kink", which now goes into the rear roof pillar.

The length, width and height of the sedan are 4709 mm, width - 1827 mm, and height - 1442 mm, which is 85 mm longer, 16 mm wider, and 1 mm higher than the predecessor. The wheelbase increased by 41 mm - to 2851 millimeters.

The center of gravity of the BMW 3-Series will decrease by 10 mm, and the weight distribution across the axles turned out to be ideal - 50:50. The mass of the sedan decreased by 55 kg, but at the same time the strength of the body and suspension structure increased by 15-20%. The company stated that the new product has the lowest drag coefficient in its class, which was 0.23.

In addition, the new BMW 3-Series received a completely redesigned suspension - the sedan became the first production model of the Bavarian brand with special "smart" shock absorbers that "continuously and progressively work in accordance with the spring travel".

In standard configuration, the sedan will be available with analog instruments, a 5.7-inch display between them, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen for the media system. Top versions will offer a fully digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch diagonal and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.

The engine lineup of the sedan for the European market included new four-cylinder two-liter turbocharged units developing 184 (320i version) and 258 hp (330i version). The diesel range is represented by two-liter engines with a capacity of 150 (318d) and 190 hp (320d), as well as a 265-horsepower three-liter six-cylinder unit (330d).

The new BMW 3-Series received a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control, parking assistant, reversing assistant, and a head-up display.

For an additional fee, three-zone climate control and a Harman Kardon audio system will be available. In addition, the sedan debuts the Intelligent Personal Assistant electronic driver assistant, called up by the request "Hey BMW" or "OK BMW". The system will be able to advise the driver on the operation of systems and the condition of the car (for example, you can ask the computer: "Is the oil level okay"). In addition, using the complex, it will be possible to control a number of infotainment functions by voice commands.
