The electric version of the next-generation Opel Corsa will be called eCorsa. Assembly of the new model will be organized at the Spanish plant in Zaragoza.

It is expected that the new Corsa will be built on the same platform as the future Peugeot 208. The model's debut is scheduled for 2019, with its electric version planned for a year later. The Corsa will become the fourth joint project between Opel and Groupe PSA, which unites the Peugeot and Citroen brands.

Back in the autumn of 2017, Opel presented the PACE! development strategy, which implies achieving profitability by 2020, as well as the unification of the platforms and engines used. In addition, the plan provides for a large-scale transition to hybrid and electric powertrains.

By 2024, the company intends to become the leader of the European market among "green" manufacturers. Within the framework of this strategy, the Germans plan to release eco-friendly versions for every passenger car model in their lineup and increase funding for projects to create hybrids, electric vehicles, and cars with hydrogen fuel cells. By 2020, at least four new eco-friendly vehicles will appear in the Opel range, including a hybrid version of the Grandland X crossover and an electric Corsa.
