Externally, the new BMW X5 can be distinguished by its very large "nostrils" of the radiator grille. The stampings are now not as deep as before, and the beltline bends over the rear arch. The proportions have also changed — the crossover looks significantly wider. In length, the new X5 has stretched to 4922 mm (+36 mm), and the distance between the axles has also increased — 2975 mm (+42 mm). The car has become 66 mm wider and 19 mm taller.

The interior design is executed in a new key — the same styling will be used for the flagship X7. The large multimedia display is docked with the digital instrument panel almost like in a Mercedes-Benz. The climate control unit is now on top and is framed together with the central air vents, while the multimedia unit is at the bottom. As an option, a glass "automatic" selector, faceted engine start button, and multimedia system washer will be offered.

The trunk has become smaller (645-1860 l), but has gained in functionality. The tailgate flaps open remotely. In addition, the trunk cover is electrically driven and can move not only horizontally but also vertically, hiding in a special niche in the underfloor. The floor liners rise during movement and prevent suitcases from sliding.

The BMW X5 has moved to the CLAR platform, shared with the 7-Series sedan and the future off-road flagship X7, so it can now be equipped with active stabilizers and all-wheel steering. The base suspension is spring-based, with adaptive dampers. As an option, air struts on all wheels are available. In sport mode at high speed, the ground clearance automatically lowers by 20 mm. For off-road, an additional 40 mm is available.

The new BMW X5 will be available in four versions: two petrol xDrive40i (340 hp and 450 Nm) and xDrive50i (462 hp and 650 Nm), as well as diesel xDrive30d (265 hp and 620 Nm) and M50d (400 hp and 760 Nm). The fastest version xDrive50i with a V8 engine accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. All engines are offered with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Drive is all-wheel drive, with a multi-disc clutch in the front wheel drive. In cars with M Sport and Offroad packages, an electronically controlled rear differential lock is available.
For the new X5, for an additional charge, a panoramic roof with "starry sky", a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 20 speakers, 10-inch monitors for rear passengers, adaptive laser headlights, four-zone climate control with ionization and aromatization are offered. Plus a whole set of electronic assistants that help drive and park safely.
