The new generation of the "five" has become 36 mm longer — to 4936 mm, 6 mm wider — to 1868 mm, and 2 mm taller — to 1466 mm. The wheelbase has grown by 7 mm and amounts to 2975 mm. At the same time, despite the increase in size, the sedan has become 100 kg lighter. The car also boasts the best aerodynamic drag coefficient in its class — 0.22.

At the start of sales, four engine options will be available. Among the petrol ones — the 530i version with a two-liter unit producing 252 hp and the 540i with a three-liter engine producing 340 hp. Diesel modifications are represented by the 520d (190 hp, 400 Nm) and 530d (265 hp, 620 Nm).

All versions are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, but for the base diesel, a six-speed manual is also provided. As before, the "five" can be ordered with the proprietary all-wheel drive system X-drive.
To improve noise and thermal insulation, the engine and transmission are placed in a special SYNTAK capsule (Synergie Thermoakustik Kapsel).

Among the many innovative systems of the new fifth series, it is worth highlighting the remote automatic parking function, which is controlled via a smartphone. Also noteworthy is the "smart" navigation, which synchronizes with the calendar and email to build an optimal route to a planned meeting in advance, taking into account traffic conditions.
In addition, the active cruise control, which operates in the speed range from 0 to 210 km/h, as well as the automatic lane change function when the turn signal is activated, deserve attention.

Sales of the new generation BMW 5 Series start in February, prices for the model have not yet been disclosed.
