The two-liter gasoline engine, named VC-Turbo, uses a multi-link system to smoothly change the piston stroke depending on operating conditions, selecting the compression most suitable for each situation. The compression ratio range is from 8:1 (like sports cars) to 14:1 (almost like diesels).

The innovative engine produces 268 hp and 390 Nm of torque. According to the developers, VC-Turbo combines the power of a turbo engine with the efficiency of a diesel. The noise and vibration levels are also significantly lower than those of traditional power units, and it is lighter and more compact than V6 engines of similar power. VC-Turbo is intended to be an alternative to four-cylinder diesel and six-cylinder gasoline engines.
The new turbo engine is scheduled to appear in production Infiniti models in 2018.
