The car's name is associated with the name of a settlement located in the Spanish province of Zaragoza. It is based on the modular MQB platform, familiar from the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan.

According to available information, the base version of the Seat Ateca will be a three-cylinder turbocharged engine with a displacement of one liter, producing 116 horsepower. The engine lineup will also include gasoline and diesel units with displacements of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, with outputs ranging from 150 to 190 horsepower. The engines will be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Drive can be either front or all-wheel drive.
