The sedan and station wagon of the current-generation Mercedes-Benz E-class are soon to undergo a major update that will affect not only the engine lineup and electronics, but also the design. Since the first test cars appeared on the roads, it has been the exterior that interested us the most — we already know quite a bit about the engines, gearboxes, and equipment thanks to Car Magazine.

The intrigue was also fueled by the fact that the engineers so carefully hid the prototypes under camouflage that it seemed the "E-class" would be limited to a light facelift. However, now photos of a pre-production station wagon have appeared online, which can tell us much more about its exterior than the early prototypes.

Of course, the Stuttgart-based company still hides many design solutions, but the passenger-cargo five-door T-Model in these photos already allows us to discern some features of the "new face" after the operation. In particular, it is noticeable that the traditional separate "headlights" will give way to L-shaped headlight units in the spirit of the front optics of the updated C-class, the radiator grille will become slightly larger, and the shape of the lower air intake slats will reference the future flagship S-class sedan.

Unfortunately, for now this is all the pre-production Mercedes-Benz E-class station wagon, which was caught by the camera at a gas station, can share. Let's hope that soon we will come across more "talkative" prototypes — the world premiere of the "E-class" sedan, according to the latest rumors, is expected this fall.
