The resonant accidents that occurred in Kharkiv prompted the Ministry of Justice to take such a tough stance.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement, the speed of cars involved in these accidents was above 180 km/h. That is why the seizure of vehicles from drivers who have debts and exceed the speed limit within the city will first be launched in Kharkiv. After that, this practice will spread to Kyiv, and then cover the entire territory of Ukraine.
Currently, a speed excess of 150 km/h has been chosen as a conditional threshold for response. The executive service, having legal grounds for this, will, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs staff, initiate and carry out the procedure of seizing cars from such violators to pay off their debts.
"If a person allows himself to move around the city at a speed of more than 150 km/h, he must bear responsibility for this. Especially considering the fact that he not only ignores the permitted speed limit but also does not pay the fines issued for this. Such a driving style poses a threat to the lives of ordinary citizens," Haichenko emphasized.
