New rules and duties have been introduced for the police, which replaces both the patrol service and the traffic police (GAI).
As motorists, we are interested in the part concerning the rules for stopping vehicles.

Actually, nothing new, but we still provide the rules and cases that give the police the right to stop a car. They are described in Article 35 of the Law "On the National Police".
So, the first thing a police officer must do is state the reason for stopping your car.
All reasons are listed by item. The police officer may stop vehicles in the following cases:
1) if the driver has violated traffic rules;
2) if the vehicle has no license plate, or if the license plate on the vehicle does not meet certain requirements, is not fixed in the designated place, is covered by other objects or is dirty, which does not allow clear identification of the license plate characters from a distance of twenty meters;
3) if there are signs indicating a technical malfunction of the vehicle;
4) if there is information indicating the involvement of the driver or passengers of the vehicle in a traffic accident, criminal or administrative offense, or if there is information indicating that the vehicle or cargo may be the object or instrument of a traffic accident, criminal or administrative offense;
5) if the vehicle is wanted;
6) if it is necessary to interview the driver or passengers about the circumstances of a traffic accident, criminal or administrative offense, of which they are or could be witnesses;
7) if it is necessary to involve the driver of the vehicle in providing assistance to other road users or police officers, or as a witness when drawing up protocols on administrative offenses or materials of a traffic accident;
8) if an authorized state authority has made a decision to restrict or prohibit traffic;
9) if the method of securing cargo on the vehicle poses a danger to other road users;
10) violation of the procedure for determining and using special light or sound signaling devices on the vehicle.
All other reasons for stopping a vehicle are considered illegal.
