Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who had been abroad for a long time could previously bring a car into the country without paying duties.
But on September 17, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution according to which, from the beginning of 2015, cars imported into the territory of Ukraine by employees of diplomatic services will be subject to all taxes and duties.

As it became known, the draft resolution was prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This was done to bring the regulatory legal acts "On Amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine" into compliance with the Law of Ukraine adopted on April 10 of this year.
Until today, the rule was in effect that Ukrainian diplomats who were on long-term foreign assignments or performed diplomatic service abroad for a year or more have the right to import vehicles into the customs territory of Ukraine without paying duties. Unofficially, all employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs understood that such benefits allowed them to compensate for meager salaries and at least somehow keep employees away from corruption schemes.
