The author of the YouTube channel TopSpeedGermany, who from time to time tries to set speed records on rare cars, attempted to find out whether the iconic T5 could reach its top speed. The test involved the 1.9 TDI version (82 hp, 200 Nm) – such a car accelerated according to the passport to 146 km/h.

So what did the blogger get? The "T5" easily reached a speed of 140-150 km/h, and on some sections even hit 160 km/h! And this despite the fact that the van is already 14 years old (2007 model year), and its mileage is 235 thousand km. For a car of this class, this is, of course, a bit (and it's unlikely that the odometer was tampered with – the video clearly shows that the Transporter is in excellent condition, both in terms of body and interior), but the result is still impressive: after more than a decade of life and a couple of hundred thousand kilometers of deliveries, it apparently hasn't lost a single horsepower.

However, the credit here goes not only to the car, but also to its engine, in particular. The 1.9 TDI engine is rightfully considered one of the most reliable.

By the way, last month the YouTuber did a similar experiment with a Volkswagen Golf III, whose odometer showed 1.2 million km.
