The sports car covered the distance of 20.6 kilometers in 6 minutes 40.3 seconds. Behind the wheel of the car, which Porsche specialists together with experts from Manthey-Racing tuned to the specifics of the Nordschleife, was Lars Kern. Previously, the same driver in September 2017 set the lap record in a standard Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

"In this test run, we only wanted to check what the car is capable of. The result was impressive. This is truly an incredible time," noted Frank-Steffen Walliser, head of the motorsport division and GT department.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS was presented at the end of June at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Under the hood of the coupe is a seriously refined 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine with enlarged turbochargers and an improved cooling system. The power unit, working in conjunction with a seven-speed ZF robotic gearbox, develops 700 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque.

The rear-wheel-drive supercar accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds — a tenth of a second faster than the 911 Turbo S. The maximum speed of the new model exceeds 340 kilometers per hour.

The Nürburgring record among production models also remains with Porsche. In October 2017, the 911 GT2 RS, driven by factory pilot Nick Tandy, completed a lap in 6 minutes 47.3 seconds — almost five seconds faster than the previous leader, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante.
