"I am very upset by the news about Sergio's health. Just a few hours ago, no one even suspected such a turn of events, and this certainly makes us feel a deep sense of injustice. My thoughts are only with Sergio and his loved ones," commented FCA Chairman John Elkann.
There is no exact information about Marchionne's condition yet. Meanwhile, the newspaper Repubblica reports that the former FCA head is unconscious and is currently undergoing treatment at a clinic in Zurich.
The position of CEO of the concern has been taken by the head of Jeep, Mike Manley. His candidacy is planned to be officially approved at the next shareholders' meeting. As for Ferrari, where Marchionne also held the post of CEO, he will be replaced by Louis Camilleri.
Earlier, Marchionne stated his intention to leave the post of FCA head before the end of the current year. He wanted to put one of the new generation managers in his place. Marchionne himself said that after retirement he would do something else — whether it would be related to the automotive industry, he did not specify.
Sergio Marchionne had headed Fiat since 2004. During this period, the integration with Chrysler was carried out, which was completed in early 2014.
