The production Discovery with a 3.0 V6 petrol engine producing 258 hp demonstrated unexpected towing capability: it moved a road train consisting of a tractor unit and seven trailers, covering a distance of 16 km with it while maintaining an average speed of 44 km/h. The officially permitted towing mass for this model is limited to 3.5 tonnes.
The tests took place on a track in Australia. The total length of the combination exceeded 100 meters — almost twice the maximum allowable 53.5 meters for local freight transport.
