In the spring of last year, Mitsubishi officially admitted that for a quarter of a century they had been understating fuel economy figures for a number of small-displacement models intended for the domestic Japanese market.
As it turned out, the automaker submitted fuel consumption data to regulatory authorities calculated using the American testing methodology, which significantly diverges from Japanese standards. In addition, during control measurements, tire pressure was deliberately altered in the vehicles, which also gave biased results.
