Last week, Toyota launched another service campaign in the US: in a number of models, the accelerator pedal could stick in the fully depressed position. The cause has not yet been disclosed, citing a defect in the mechanism. At first, it seemed that the problem would be limited to North America and possibly partly China, but yesterday, a notice appeared on the UK Toyota portal about readiness to recall cars in Europe as well. Whether this campaign will reach us is not yet clear.

Here are the models that will be sent for inspection in the States:

  • RAV4 2009-2010
  • Corolla 2009-2010
  • Matrix 2009-2010
  • Avalon 2005-2010
  • Camry 2007-2010
  • Highlander 2010
  • Tundra 2007-2010
  • Sequoia 2008-2010

However, the owner of a recent Toyota can independently verify the condition of their car:

1. Look under the steering column — to the right of the steering shaft, there is the accelerator pedal assembly, a black box to which the gas pedal is attached.
2. If on the left side of this box (the one closer to the shaft) you see four self-tapping screws — then everything is fine! Such an assembly is made by Denso from Japan, and there are no problems with it.
3. But if you don't see the bolts... then things are bad.
