In the German city of Stuttgart, on the night of September 30, a major fire broke out in the vehicle depot of a local transport company – it turned 20 buses, including rare museum exhibits, into a pile of scrap metal.
As local media report, the cause of the fire was a recently purchased electric Mercedes-Benz bus. The fire broke out while the vehicle was charging. The flames quickly spread to neighboring buses parked on the depot grounds. Among the museum exhibits, the fire destroyed Mercedes-Benz O307, O322, and O317 buses, produced in the 1960s–1970s.
In addition, two people were injured — they were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning.
The preliminary estimate of the damage is 30 million euros.
