Chinese manufacturers are becoming leaders
The most noticeable trend of the month is the confident growth of the role of Chinese car brands. Their presence in the market reached 27%, which is almost ten percentage points more than at the start of the year. The main contribution to this jump was made by electric vehicles imported outside official channels — they have massively appeared on Ukrainian roads. Notably, in July, BYD took the second place in the number of cars sold in Ukraine, although this manufacturer has not opened an official dealership in the country.

Electric cars — a record, but with a Chinese trace
In July, the share of electric vehicles among new cars again crossed the quarter-market mark — 25.1%. At first glance, this is positive news, but a deeper look shows: 95.4% of all new electric cars sold in Ukraine are assembled in China. That is, by encouraging the transition to "green" transport, we are actually investing in the Chinese economy, since there is no domestic production of electric vehicles in Ukraine.

The premium segment is losing ground
Another noticeable change is the reduction in the share of luxury brands. At the beginning of the year, their share reached 21%, and in July it fell to 15.8%. Some drivers deliberately choose modern Chinese models instead of expensive German or Italian ones, and although these cars are not premium in the classical sense, they already compete worthily with well-known brands. Notably, 36.8% of Audi and 11.5% of Mercedes-Benz sold in July came off the assembly lines of Chinese factories.

Forecast for the future
These trends together indicate: Chinese auto giants will not stop at the budget segment but will actively increase their influence in the middle and premium classes, displacing competitors from Europe, Japan, and Korea. Whether traditional brands will be able to maintain their positions is still unknown. However, one thing is already clear: China is conducting a large-scale and successful expansion into the Ukrainian car market, and the current 27% is only the initial stage.
