Almost all cars registered in May — 97.5% — were imported from abroad. The share of cars assembled in Ukraine is only 2.5% (166 units), but this indicator remains stable, and in some segments domestic production even stands out.
The top three brands most often registered for the first time last month are Toyota, Volkswagen, and Skoda. These brands are traditionally in demand among Ukrainians. Among the models, familiar names also prevail, including the Renault Duster and Toyota RAV4. However, there are also unexpected results: the third position was taken by the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. This SUV usually does not claim mass popularity, but apparently it has found its buyers.
The biggest surprise was the success of the Volkswagen ID. Unix — an electric car produced exclusively for China. This futuristic crossover is equipped with a 3D avatar, AR projection, and gesture control, and it was not planned for delivery to Europe. However, Ukrainian demand for unusual novelties, backed by the VW logo, did its job — the model entered the sales leaders and became virtually the main "dark horse" of the season.
Among cars of Ukrainian assembly, the best result was shown by the Skoda Karoq, which comes off the assembly line of the Transcarpathian plant "Eurocar" — 86 registrations were recorded. Other "local" cars are mainly specialized versions converted for police, medical services, and other state needs.
As for powertrains, in May there is a noticeable gradual transition to more environmentally friendly options. Gasoline engines still lead (35.8%), but hybrids have almost caught up with them (27.2%). Electric cars overtook diesel vehicles: 18.7% versus 18.3%. This indicates a gradual change in buyer preferences, who are increasingly choosing "cleaner" technologies.
Thus, the market for new passenger cars in Ukraine is not only expanding but also showing readiness to embrace new trends — from expensive SUVs to unexpected models from Chinese factories. It seems that this activity will continue in the future.
