As the owner of the hybrid Golf told the local press, the car caught fire right while driving. Before the fire, a strong explosion with a bright blue flash occurred in the hatchback, which even blew out the windows in the car. Fortunately, neither the driver nor his passenger were seriously injured – they only sustained minor injuries.

The firefighters who arrived at the scene tried to extinguish the fire in the traditional way, but it did not help. Due to smoldering batteries, the Golf's battery ignited again and again, and in the end, the rescuers had to apply the electric vehicle extinguishing method to the hybrid – placing it in a large water tank.

It is noteworthy that at the time of the incident, the car's mileage was only 300 km – it had literally left the showroom just days before. Representatives of Volkswagen, in a comment to the publication AutoBild, stated that they are already investigating such an unpleasant case.
The preliminary amount of damage amounted to 45,000 euros – that is exactly how much a new Volkswagen Golf GTE (8th generation) costs.
