PSA has decided to abandon plans to launch production of the new generation Opel Corsa at the plant in Zaragoza. The car will be assembled at another site, and the Spanish enterprise will be left without funding for the development of new models.
Quite recently, the plant, which was originally created specifically for the production of the Corsa, expected to start manufacturing the updated version of the model as early as next year.
For Opel's largest European plant, this decision will be a serious blow. The loss of the Corsa model will lead to significant job cuts and looks like outright pressure: if workers at the Spanish plant do not make concessions that hinder the implementation of the program, their situation will only worsen.
Now the ball is in the Spaniards' court. Trade union organizations have already announced the convening of a general meeting of the workforce.
