China remained at the top among the world's car manufacturers: in the first three months, 6.1 million passenger cars rolled off its assembly lines. Compared to January-March 2016, production in China grew by 6.8 percent.
Japan holds the second position, producing 2.2 million cars. The local auto industry increased volumes by 8 percent.
Germany, with 1.5 million passenger cars, confidently retains third place in the global ranking. German factories increased output by 3.1 percent over the quarter.
The fourth line of the list was a real surprise: India burst into it with a 10 percent production growth, having been only in sixth place a year earlier. From January to March, the country produced more than a million passenger cars.
South Korea closes the top five — there, 940 thousand cars were manufactured over the same period, which is 3.4 percent less than a year earlier.
In total, 18.5 million passenger cars were produced worldwide in the quarter. Thus, growth compared to the same period last year amounted to 5.8 percent.
