The press service of the Japanese manufacturer reports that an internal investigation revealed that since 2010, the measurement procedures conducted by Suzuki did not meet state standards. Instead of testing in real road conditions, as prescribed by the Japanese Ministry of Transport, cars were tested in a wind tunnel and on special stands.
Suzuki explained that they did this because of the location of their own test site, which is on a seaside hill. According to company representatives, the weather in this area often changes and strong winds blow, which significantly complicated the tests.
Incorrect fuel consumption figures affected 16 models, including the SX4, Jimny, and Swift, which are well known to Ukrainian drivers. As Bloomberg notes, immediately after the information from Suzuki appeared, their shares lost 9.4% in value.
It is worth recalling that a similar scandal related to fuel consumption previously occurred with Mitsubishi, and after the depreciation of this company's shares, Nissan decided to acquire them.
