The new turbocharged ecoFLEX unit was named the best in its segment.
Reducing displacement while increasing power is a current trend. But it may seem strange that such a large car as the Opel Insignia is content with an engine of just 1.4 liters. In practice, however, this is not a problem at all.
The lack of "cubes" is more than compensated by turbocharging, which provides a decent reserve of torque. To verify this, it is enough to drive a couple of dozen kilometers around the city. Thanks to the boost, there is no feeling of a lack of engine displacement.
The car is equipped with the already familiar Start Stop system, which became available for other Insignia versions with the start of the 2012 model year. This system automatically turns off the engine during stops and starts it again when you need to move off, for example, at a traffic light. This solution was adopted to reduce fuel consumption.
For the same purpose, the hydraulic power steering has given way to an electric drive: steering sensitivity has not suffered, but energy consumption has noticeably decreased. This, of course, has also affected the car's overall appetite.
By the way, the fuel consumption of the Insignia 1.4 Turbo ecoFLEX Start/Stop MT6 version in the combined cycle is only 5.7 liters per 100 km!
The price of such a car starts from 213,120 UAH. Moreover, this is not about a bare base, but a quite well-equipped car: 6-speed manual, ESP Plus, TCS, ABS and EBD systems, six airbags, air conditioning, RCD 300 radio, light sensor, front electric windows, heated electric mirrors, central locking with remote control, onboard computer, electric driver's seat adjustment, armrest, front fog lights, traditional "Bad Roads" and "Dust Protection" packages, as well as a number of other options.
The Opel Insignia has collected more than fifty national and international awards, including the prestigious titles "Car of the Year" and "Car of the Year in Ukraine." Buyers have confirmed this success with high demand: to date, more than 400,000 such cars have been sold worldwide.
Modern technologies and new petrol engines of the Insignia 2012 model year should continue the success of the Opel flagship.
In addition to the new 1.4-liter engine, another newcomer has appeared in the Opel Insignia range — a two-liter petrol turbo engine with direct injection, producing 250 hp and an impressive 400 Nm of torque — like an SUV! Compared to the previous version, power has increased by 30 hp, and torque by 50 Nm. This engine is installed on cars with adaptive all-wheel drive.
With a manual gearbox, such an Insignia accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
The price of this version starts from 26,576 euros.
The two-liter turbo unit clearly demonstrates that increased power and fuel economy are quite compatible. New technologies, including the Start/Stop system and low rolling resistance tires, have reduced consumption to 8.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions to 197 g/km (previously 8.9 l/100 km and 209 g/km CO2). Thanks to increased power and torque, excellent dynamics, and reduced consumption, the Opel Insignia 2.0 Turbo shows excellent driving qualities for the premium mid-size class.
Let us remind you that in addition to the new engines, the Insignia's arsenal still includes four more petrol units and one diesel. Among the petrol ones — 1.6 turbo with 180 hp, 2.0 turbo with 220 hp (by the way, the most in demand among Ukrainian buyers), 2.8 turbo with 260 hp, as well as the most powerful in the family, the OPC — 2.8 turbo with 325 hp!
The 2.0-liter turbodiesel (160 hp, 350 Nm) has also gained popularity in Ukraine, as it is adapted to not always high-quality fuel and consumes only 5.1 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle.
The 2012 model year updates concern not only engines. The Navi 600 and Navi 900 Europa infotainment systems significantly surpass previous versions with CD and DVD players. Cartography is now stored on SD cards and can be customized to the driver's needs: you can add your own points of interest (POI) to the standard ones, highlight individual items, and save them in the address book. The navigator can plot not only the fastest or shortest route, but also the most economical one, ensuring minimal fuel consumption.
The Navi 900 Europa system additionally received a voice recognition function and a trip log with division into personal and business trips. The additional points of interest notification system warns the driver of approaching them with a sound signal, text message, or pop-up window.
The Opel Insignia 2012 model year is also equipped with the latest safety developments. The front Opel Eye camera, which can "read" road signs and warn about lane departure, has acquired a new function — Following Distance Indication. It automatically activates at speeds above 40 km/h, measures the distance to the vehicle ahead, and provides a visual and audible signal, warning of a collision danger.
The Opel Insignia 2012 model year has become even more elegant and comfortable. Versions with high-quality black leather upholstery in the "Indian night" shade with contrasting cognac-colored stitching have gone on sale. A new body color — dark metallic with a blue-violet tint — emphasizes the car's elegance. The sporty silhouette of the Insignia will be complemented in the coming months by new alloy wheels with a striking design.
