BMW X4 is another crossover from the Bavarian manufacturer. In the model lineup, it sits between the X3 and X5. The letter "X" in the name indicates its belonging to the crossover class, while the number "4" denotes its sequential number in the brand's lineup.
Seeing the commercial success of the X6 model, BMW management decided to release its "younger brother." Development of the new model began in 2011. The X6 was taken as a basis, and the exterior retained the features of the "older" crossover — a hybrid of an SUV and a coupe, but in a smaller size. The exterior and interior design was developed by the brand's chief designer, Karim Habib. Thus, the new model became the second in the Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) class created by the brand. The platform from the BMW X6 was modernized and shortened, and the suspension was retuned. The car was offered with modern gasoline and diesel engines from the X3 crossover, paired with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The car is equipped with the most modern passive and active safety systems, driver assistance features, and multimedia functions. Production of the model began in mid-2014 at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, USA. In Ukraine, official sales of the BMW X4 were scheduled for late 2014 to early 2015.
