The BMW i3 became the first production electric model of the brand. Its premiere took place on July 29, 2013 simultaneously in New York, London and Beijing.
The hatchback is available in two versions: fully electric and hybrid. In the first case, a 170-hp electric motor (torque — 250 N·m) is installed, located together with lithium-ion batteries at the rear. The range of such a car is from 130 to 160 km depending on driving conditions.
The hybrid modification is supplemented by a 0.65-liter gasoline engine with a power of 34 hp. This option, called "Range Extender", increases the total mileage without refueling to 300 km.
At 50-kW stations, the battery can be charged to 80% in half an hour. From a regular household outlet, a full charge takes eight hours. Thanks to the use of carbon elements in the design, the curb weight of the car is 1200 kg, and the weight distribution along the axles is 50:50.
Sales of the BMW i3 started at the end of 2013, and the model appeared in Ukraine in 2014.
