Quarantine
We won't be original if we call the spring quarantine in Ukraine the main event. In April, new car sales collapsed by 46.9%, and used cars were completely deregistered. Nevertheless, the market recovered fairly quickly, and by the end of the year the decline was only 3%. In many countries, this figure is much worse.
Return of automatic photo enforcement
From June 1, cameras for automatic photo and video recording of traffic violations started operating in Ukraine. Initially, they were launched in Kyiv and Kyiv region (45 units in total), but by the end of the year, the first cameras also appeared in Lviv region.
By the end of the year, over a million violations were recorded automatically, and the state budget was replenished by almost 200 million hryvnias.
Revival of ZAZ
In autumn, the Zaporizhzhia Automobile Plant finally resumed production of passenger cars. The first to hit the assembly line was the stylish coupe-crossover Renault Arkana. By the way, AutoPortal made a detailed video review of it. Then assembly of several Lada models started. By the end of the year, 816 passenger cars were assembled at ZAZ.
New brand on the market
For the first time in several years, a new brand appeared on the Ukrainian market – the Chinese Jetour. The new Chery division presented the seven-seat X70 crossover with a low price and very rich equipment.
Increase in LPG installation cost
In 2020, the registration of LPG equipment in Ukraine sharply increased in price. If previously this procedure cost about 500-600 hryvnias, now it is 3000. As a result, the demand for converting cars to gas fell by about 3-4 times.
Road construction
The pace of road repair and construction last year was unprecedented. In total, about 4,200 km of highways and a hundred artificial structures (bridges and interchanges) were reconstructed. Work is also progressing on long-term construction projects – for example, traffic was partially launched on the bridge in Zaporizhzhia. Plans for 2021 include putting 6,800 km of roads in order.
