BMW's shift to front-wheel drive made it possible to simplify the interior layout, gaining additional space for passengers. In addition, the combination of front-wheel drive with small-displacement engines had a positive effect on fuel efficiency while maintaining quite respectable dynamics.
For example, the base engine will be a three-cylinder 1.5-liter unit, which is currently installed in the Mini. With 136 hp and 220 Nm of torque, it allows the Active Tourer to demonstrate quite decent dynamics of 9.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, and average fuel consumption is only 4.9 liters.
Even more impressive results can be offered by the more expensive BMW 218d version. Equipped with a 2-liter diesel engine with 150 hp, it has dynamics of 8.9 seconds and consumes only 4.1 liters of fuel per 100 km.
For those who like it "hotter," a version with a 2-liter gasoline turbo engine with 231 hp is offered. Such an Active Tourer reaches the first "hundred" in 6.8 seconds, and the top speed is 235 km/h.
Later, the Bavarians intend to expand the range of power units with versions 216d, 220d, and 220i, and the most powerful modifications will receive an all-wheel drive system. Three optional packages have also been developed: Sport Line, Luxury Line, and M Sport.
Comfort enthusiasts will be pleased with the convenient body and its impressive dimensions for this class of car. For example, in terms of wheelbase size, the Active Tourer is only 1.4 cm behind the older BMW 3 Series. And the dimensions of the new model are as follows: length – 4342 mm; width – 1800 mm; height – 1555 mm; wheelbase – 2670 mm.
The compact BMW hatchback has a quite impressive trunk, the volume of which varies from 468 to 1,510 liters. The rear sofa can be folded in a 40:20:40 ratio, and the interior has many additional niches for small items.
The debut of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will take place in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
