Question from a user with the nickname 2058147:
Kyiv, near the Lybidska metro station. How to correctly exit from Gorky Street onto Druzhby Narodiv Boulevard if you need to head towards the central bus station?

I am driving in the right lane, and I need to change to the left lane to get onto the bridge towards Holosiivska Square. The view is limited due to the side mirror. The traffic coming down from the bridge along Druzhby Narodiv Boulevard is moving quite fast and does not let me in, although I consider myself an obstacle on the right. How can I safely perform such a maneuver?

Comment from the instructors of the Karat driving school:
Drivers following along Druzhby Narodiv Boulevard are not obliged to give way to you, because you are changing lanes, and they are driving in their own lane.

According to clause 10.3 of the Ukrainian Traffic Regulations, when changing lanes, the driver must give way to vehicles moving in the same direction in the lane into which he intends to change. Even if priority signs are no longer in effect, when changing lanes you must still let those who are driving in the lane you are changing into pass.

To safely overcome this section, you must first make sure that your maneuver will not interfere with other road users whose paths you are crossing.

Brief summary: when changing lanes, you must give way to traffic moving in the lane you are changing into, and make sure that your actions will not create obstacles for other drivers.

Earlier, AvtoPortal already analyzed the issue of priority when changing lanes, when the main and secondary roads do not intersect.
