Due to increased demand, Ukraine plans to establish pickup truck production using the large-knockdown assembly method. This statement was made by Deputy Minister of Economy Andriy Teliupa. At the first stage, assembly of several thousand vehicles per year is planned, which will partially meet the needs of the domestic market.
At the end of last year, an agreement was signed with the Japanese side to launch such production in Ukraine. The cooperation is designed for the long term and involves a phased transition to small-knockdown assembly, which will increase the level of localization.
"We calculated that thanks to local production, the price of pickups for buyers will be lower", emphasized Andriy Teliupa, speaking at the presentation of the economic forecast for 2024, organized by the Center for Economic Strategy.

The ministry also notes positive developments in the production of wheeled vehicles in the country. "There are already successful projects, including school buses. Now we want to expand the range and add pickups, excavators, and trailers for transporting heavy equipment", added the official.
This initiative is expected to promote the development of domestic mechanical engineering and strengthen economic stability. Localization of production will create new jobs and reduce dependence on imported equipment. The ministry is already working with enterprises to create conditions that will encourage them to increase production volumes.
The launch of pickup truck production in Ukraine is a strategic step that will strengthen the country's defense capabilities and make a significant contribution to the development of the national industry.
