According to the assessment of loss ratios of auto insurance portfolios (CASCO), in 2015 the number of car thefts increased 10 times.
“According to our statistics, in 2015 there were ten times more thefts than in 2014. Basically, such insured events occurred in Kyiv, Odesa, and Lviv,” said Antonina Yakovenko, Deputy Chairman of the Board for Reinsurance and Underwriting at Arsenal Insurance.
As a result of a survey of the main market operators, it was also possible to compile a rating of the most unprofitable car brands for CASCO (popular among car thieves).
In 2015, according to a survey of ten major auto insurance companies, Land Rover vehicles took the lead in loss ratio. However, in general, owners of Land Rover or Range Rover vehicles are desirable clients for insurers, but only if their cars are reliably protected. Otherwise, insurers have to pay huge compensations, which makes cars of this brand the leaders in loss ratio for the second year in a row.
In addition to Land Rover, Toyota and BMW vehicles were in high demand among thieves in 2015.
“In 2015, the BMW X6 entered the list of leaders in the number of thefts for the first time,” noted the press service of Dominanta.

However, among the unprofitable cars are not only those that are stolen, but also those that are more often involved in accidents, as well as those used for commercial purposes (for example, taxis). These include Daewoo, Opel, Honda, Hyundai, and Fiat.
Insurance companies also have their “favorites.” In 2015, insurers named premium segment car brands as the most loss-free: Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus, Maserati. People who drive these cars are more attentive because they value the property at their disposal quite highly, insurers assure.
