The electric nature of the Tesla Model Y is preserved — the main source of traction remains the electric motor. However, it is now complemented by a compact 1.0-liter gasoline unit that is not connected to the wheels and serves exclusively as a generator. A similar scheme was already used in the Chevrolet Volt and BMW i3 REX.

The Australian company Obrist took on the construction of such a non-standard Tesla Model Y. Customers are offered two versions of the power plant with outputs of 136 and 272 horsepower. The average fuel consumption is stated at 2.0 liters per hundred kilometers.

In addition, the hybrid Tesla Model Y turns out to be lighter due to the absence of the need for a massive battery. A power plant of this type is also noticeably more affordable: its cost is estimated at only 2000 euros, while the standard Tesla motor and battery will cost the buyer 12 thousand euros.
